Re-thinking the ‘Method’ non toxic products

OMG did you read about the Method products?

I was so happy to have discovered the best all natural product my household can benefit from. I even let my kids clean the table with a sponge after spraying the Method Grapefruit multi-surface and I know I am discovering that ‘Fragrance’ can have so much toxic things in it. I am onto their website now and will defo do some more research before totally exterminating it from my cupboard!

Let’s see. This is what the internet gives me:

‘While many natural cleaners are safer than conventional cleaners, the reality is that many products labeled as “natural” are actually not non toxic cleaners at all. Products from brands like Seventh Generation, Method, Mrs. Meyers, Honest Company & Green Works all contain toxic chemicals.’

Choking!

And this is what I have found on the Method website itself: It is a long list so I highlighted my concern, the fragrance, and on the tab below you can clearly see that it is safe. I am so sighting right now. Gotta tell my grapefruit bottle that it is safe, not going to be thrown.

ingredient what it does environmental + health summary learn more
water (aqua) diluent + solvent deionized for purity; extracted from abundant source
potassium hydroxide optimizes pH levels biodegrades readily; derived from plant sugars such as corn
sodium carbonate optimizes pH levels disperses safely in the environment; derived from an abundant mineral source
sodium gluconate optimizes pH levels biodegrades readily; derived from plant sugars such as corn; not irritating to skin
laureth-7 (ethoxylated coconut oil) surfactant (cleaning agent) biodegrades readily; derived from plant sources
citric acid optimizes pH levels biodegrades readily; derived from plant sugars such as corn
colorant colorant ultimately degradable + not accumulative in the environment; made from synthetic materials
fragrance (parfum) fragrance blended composition is partly essential oils + partly synthetic ingredients free of phthalates, NPEs + other dirty ingredients; non-toxic in use, free of carcinogens + tested for skin irritation + allergies
decyl glucoside, lauryl glucoside surfactant (cleaning agent) biodegrades readily; derived from corn sugars, coconut or palm oil

It does beg the question though, always double check and re-check don’t just trust something someone said especially the ads! Do you watch a lot of ads? Do your kids watch a lot of ads? You know when I see things like Jennifer Aniston endorsing Aveeno, now everyone things Aveeno is the best brand ever! Well little do you know what is in it until you read the small caption that comes after: ingredients. You will be by far surprised. But that’s another subject for another day!
